New Single, "Until the Dead Rise," Out Now

“Until the Dead Rise,” the new single from Austin-based singer/songwriter, Ben Brown, satirizes the political and cultural divisions in America by suggesting it will take a zombie apocalypse for divided Americans to find common ground.

“I’ve just finished a new solo album called Funky Dracula,” says Brown, “which combines two of my favorite elements: cultural satire and the horror genre. As the first single, I’ve chosen “Until the Dead Rise,” because, really, who among us hasn’t fantasized in recent years about throwing a dance party as the world ends?”

Heavy on 80’s synthesizers and percussive drum loops, “Until the Dead Rise” sounds like a collaboration between Prince and Adam Ant, with a pinch of Edgar Allen Poe thrown in to darken things up.

“Late-80’s Prince–specifically his albums from ‘87 to ‘89–provided the sonic inspiration for much of Funky Dracula,” says Brown. Something about the disposability of the synth sounds and the throwaway thumping of the drum machines from that period provides a fertile backdrop for an artist to use satire to criticize the modern news cycle–and serenade the end times.”
